As many of you know, I serve as the sports physician for the San Diego Flash soccer team and am married to a soccer enthusiast. Up to 18% of soccer players and other athletes involved in kicking and running sports can develop chronic groin pain that can be difficult to diagnose and treat. 25% of athletes with this condition fail to return to their previous level of sports function with traditional treatment. A study by an Argentinian physician shows that a simple (and safe) treatment consisting of a series of dextrose injections can heal over 90% of these injuries. I continue to be impressed by the promise of regenerative treatments (PRP, prolotherapy, stem cell injections) in helping to heal and regenerate chronic injuries. See the research here.
